I have a foundation degree in Integrative Counselling from the University of Plymouth, and hold a clean, enhanced DBS certificate.

I am a 'generalist' practitioner who can help with issues from anxiety and depression to bereavement and trauma. If you would like to read more about myself and my qualifications, please click the button below.

Frequently Asked Questions

The type of therapy I offer is known as talking therapy, which provides you with a confidential space to explore your issues at your own pace and to allow you to draw your own conclusions about your situation. During therapy, some psycho-education may be provided - as may 'homework.' I sometimes also suggest using creative techniques (such as art/creative writing/play therapy), although this is distinct from Art Therapy, which is a distinct process in of itself.

The way in which I work is known as Pluralistic, which incorporates elements of Humanistic, Cognitive, and Psychodynamic theories. It is a collaborative process in which we will look at your issues and together develop pieces of work to help resolve them.

You can download a copy of my contract here.

I offer a free, no obligation phone session which will last approximately 20-minutes for first introductions and to check that what you are looking for is something that I can offer, as there may be instances in which another therapist or specialist service may be better or required.

If it seems as though we may be able to work together, you will be invited to attend an initial session (for which I allow up to 90-minutes). In this session, we do some introductions and then go through the written contract to explain expectations and answer any questions you may have about this. Where appropriate we may also use some questionnaires (for depression and anxiety) to assess where you currently 'are' in terms of your own mental health, although this is not always necessary. We will also have more of a conversation about what issues you are looking to explore and any goals that you may have.

When we come to the end of this session, we can make a decision about whether or not we feel we can work together. If it feels as though we can work together, I will suggest we initially attend 6 sessions with a review after this point to see how the relationship is and whether or not the therapy is helping. If it is, then we will generally move to a 'rolling' weekly basis until the work is complete.

Conversely, during our initial session, it may seem as though I might not be the best person to help (which does sometimes happen) and we can discuss a referral to a different therapist or service.

I am able to work with individuals aged 18 and over which can be held online or face-to-face. I do not offer couples therapy.

The building I work from is residential and, unfortunately, does not have disability access, as it requires the use of stairs; however, I am able to work online for anyone who would not be able to attend in person due to accessibility issues.

I accept payment by bank transfer only; I cannot accept cash or card payments. Bank details will be provided with a copy of the contract.

Cancellations need to be made with 48 hours’ notice (Monday – Friday). Any sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged at the full rate of the session. Example: If your session is on Monday, I request to be notified by 6pm on the Thursday evening preceding the session.

If I am unable to attend a session at short-notice, I will make every effort possible to notify you prior to the session and there will be no fee applicable; if you have already processed a payment for the session, this can be used towards the next session or I can return this to you. I request as much notice as possible for any annual leave, and I will provide the same.

I typically take between 6 - 8 weeks annual leave per year due to the nature of this work, and I do not work public holidays due to family commitments.
